How to Give Your Event Videographer an Advantage

Surprises are great for parties, but not for videography. I recently filmed an event where the organizers did not tell me a major reveal that would happen during the day. They wanted it to be a surprise for the attendees. Completely ignorant, I was not prepared for the big moment, and nearly missed it.

#ProTip: Always tell your videographer EVERYTHING that will happen at an event.

Yes, live events can be unpredictable, but you can give your videographer an advantage when you tell them the whole schedule, even if there is a surprise (I promise to keep it secret). Videographers constantly make judgements about the best place to be standing, where to point the camera, and even when to start rolling. If you don’t tell me when, and where, something will occur, I might not even see it happen until it is too late to catch on film. But, if you tell me everything, I can catch the surprise from the best angle and even permanently capture the shocked/surprised/pleased looks on all the faces as it happens.
