Why Social Media Videos Should Be Square

Get square… Literally. On social media, your video should be square, not rectangular, for maximum impact. Some studies show that square videos get 30% more views and an 80-100% increase in engagement when compared to their landscape counterparts.

#ProTip: For max impact on social media, videos should be square.

But why? The answer is simple: Most people are viewing social media on their cell phones. On a cell phone screen, a square video takes up 78% more “real estate” than a landscape video, which means it is more easily seen and harder to scroll past.

If social media is the destination, Thing in a Pot Productions changes all aspects of your project to make the best use of the square space. If a video is will be used on both televisions/YouTube (which does not accept square videos at this time) and other social media channels, we create two versions of your video–one that is square and one that is landscape–so that you can get the best results wherever your video is seen.
